Odette Arredondo, MD, assistant professor, received her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her residency training in family medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Arredondo also received additional training in internal medicine at Scott and White Hospital. Her special interests include disease prevention, management of chronic diseases and patient education. Dr. Arredondo enjoys working with the underserved and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Anthony E. Brown, MD, MPH, assistant professor, received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, completed family medicine residency at the University of California Irvine, and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He earned a BS in bioengineering summa cum laude at the University of California San Diego, trained in health promotion/education through an MPH, and studied how spirituality impacts health during a research fellowship. Dr. Brown is interested in caring for your primary health concerns over time, collaborating with other specialists as needed, and helping you enjoy a high quality of life and personal well-being.
Jane E. Corboy, MD, associate professor, received her medical degree with highest honors from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Kansas in Kansas City. She has completed additional training programs, including the Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and the Master Teacher Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Corboy is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Corboy is interested in women's health, disease prevention, and sports medicine, especially running injuries. She is also interested in training family physicians for the future and oversees the Family Medicine residency track at Baylor Family Medicine. Bilingual/Spanish.
John Farmer, MD, professor, is board certified in internal medicine. His clinical interests include preventive cardiology, lipid disorders and heart failure. Dr. Farmer earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Farmer sees patients with the cardiology group at Baylor Clinic as well as here at our family medicine practice located on Kirby.
Latricia Gillis, MD, assistant professor, is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and completed her residency training in family medicine at Memorial Southwest Family Medicine Residency program in Sugarland, TX. Her special interests include patient education, preventive medicine, and chronic disease management. Dr Gillis desires to form a long-term partnership with her patients and through education provide them the opportunity to make informed decisions regarding medical care.
Matthew S. Horsfield, MD, assistant professor, received his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. He completed his residency training in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Prior to joining Baylor Family Medicine, he practiced in southeast Louisiana for almost a decade. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Horsfield's interests include patient education, health promotion and chronic disease management. As of August 2009, he serves as the medical director for Baylor Family Medicine.
Camille M. Leugers, MD, assistant professor, is board certified in family medicine. Dr. Leugers earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York. Her training includes an internship in family medicine at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey and a residency in family medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Leugers sees patients in both the Express Care Center and the department of Family & Community Medicine at BCM.
Tomas G. Lumicao, Jr., MD, assistant professor, received his medical degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Manila, the Philippines. He completed his residency in family medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His special interests include minor ambulatory procedures and obesity. Bilingual/Filipino.
Monika Mathur, MD, assistant professor, received her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Mathur practiced Family Medicine in Massachusetts for five years where she acted as Quality Chief for the Department of Family Medicine with Reliant Medical Group. She remains focused on improving the quality of care we provide patients as an organization. Her clinical interests include sports medicine, medical informatics, patient education and performance improvement.
Brian C. Reed, MD, associate professor and interim chair, received his medical degree from University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Dr. Reed has been with Baylor College of Medicine since 2002. He is dedicated to improving healthcare access and quality of care for underserved patients in urban areas. He is also interested in developing educational tools and preventive techniques that will help improve healthcare outcomes for patients.
John C. Rogers, MD, MPH, MEd, professor, received his medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, his master's in public health and preventive medicine residency at the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle, Washington, and his master's in education at the University of Houston. Dr. Rogers is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Rogers is particularly interested in prevention in clinic settings and in sports medicine.
Luis O. Rustveld, PhD, RD, LD, assistant professor, earned his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. Dr. Rustveld is a licensed and registered dietitian. His research interests include nutrition and chronic diseases, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, community health, health status of minority populations, and reproductive health. Bilingual/Spanish.
Jeffrey R. Steinbauer, MD, is a professor and Chief Medical Information Officer for Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Steinbauer earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and completed his residency and internship in family practice at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He began private practice in the small town of Clay Center, Kansas, where he gained a broad range of experiences taking care of the needs of his patients from birth to death. Three years later, he followed a family tradition of teaching and began an academic career which eventually brought him to Baylor in 1999. Dr. Steinbauer's clinical interests include geriatrics, medical informatics and primary care counseling.
Simon N. Whitney, MD, JD, associate professor, earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He earned a law degree with distinction from Stanford University, where he also completed a fellowship in biomedical ethics. Dr. Whitney is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His research interests are patient-physician decision making, including end-of-life choices and conflicts between physicians and patients. He is working to reform the regulations that govern medical research.
Physician assistants are integral members of our team. Under the supervision of a physician, they can assist patients with medical questions or concerns, conduct examinations, prescribe medications, order diagnostic services and provide therapeutic and preventive health care services.
Elisa Rivera-Hayes, PA-C, instructor, is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her special interests include preventive care, urgent care, women's health and children with ADHD. She also enjoys working with the underserved and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Isabel Valdez, MPAS, PA-C, instructor, is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Her interests include the promotion of disease prevention, patient education, and the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure. She enjoys working with the underserved and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
